Al @ the Apple Shop - yes you read right...

Well I woke up nice and early and thought why not. My dear brother would be terribly unhappy if we didn't have one family member at the grand opening of Apple's 190th retail store, the 10th in the UK, in Glasgow's Buchanan Street.

I arrived at the shop bang on 0900 and although the rest of Glasgow was relatively deserted there was an enormous queue in a specially erected set of fences in the middle of the pedestrian Buchanan Street. Entering the line two girls from Scotsys were handing out flyers suggesting you looked and touched in the Apple store but purchased your hardware from them and save some money.

I then turned up the Black Eye Peas on my iPod (slave to advertising) and sloooowwwwwwlllllly followed the queue to the front door. As groups of people were entering the shop there were whoops and clapping, surely this would have gotten boring by the time I got to the front of the queue?

It took the best part of an hour to get through the queue, time spent listening to the aforementioned iPod and texting Mum. It started to rain but hey this is the Glasgow store not the Miami one.

Well on the stroke of 1000 I was called through the door, not before I managed to get a picture of some typical Glasgow humour from the Evening Times paper stall.

There were about 10 of us got through the door and the clapping and cheering was still going on though had lost a little vigour. I was handed my little apple box which I am cherishing, well kind of more about that later.

Time to become a geek and start playing with the toys lying around the shop, oh and maybe take a few pictures for people to see.

All in all it's a very nice store, can't quite see where 1 million pounds was spent, though the glass spiral staircase was nice and the whole shop has a nice ambiance. Adding a small Macbook to my list of computers would be nice but I feel they are a little overpriced at the moment so I'll just hang on and hope the prices drop.

Cool little chair to play games at a machine

Games on a Mac?? Disappointing selection compared to what I can get on my PC.

Nice view from the upper level over the shop.

Line of decent sized screens

Table of Macbooks

I think I know who created that website.
